Carroll Attends B.A.R.S. Ski Mash 2013

Feb. 2, 2013

Carroll was lucky enough to meet the good folks from Baltimore Adaptive Sports and Recreation (BARS) in 2012.  With our BP program, Fueling Communities, we were able to donate $7,500.00 to the local Paralympic sports club.  Pamela Lehnert, the principle at BARS, insisted we attend their annual Ski Mash this year to see some of the great things they do with the donations.  It was amazing and inspiring to see the human spirit at its best.  All of the athletes had different stories but shared a commonality of “never giving up” and “living life to the fullest.”  This spirit was never more appearent when you could see empty wheelchairs piled up at the foot of the mountain and just knowing that their owners were on the slopes enjoying life.  We hope to continue our newly formed relationship with BARS and look forward to spending much more time with these good people.

Carroll Independent Fuel / High’s are excited to team up with the charity, Cookies for Kids!  On Thursday February 14th, we will be holding a corporate bake sale.  All proceeds will go directly to funding pediatric cancer research. We are asking for our employees, vendors and customers to stop our gourmet kitchen located in Exeter Hall and make a donation of any size, and ….pick up something sweet for their sweeties on the sweetest day of the year!

Here is the best news…Carroll’s Corporate Giving Committe and another great corporation… Bormioli Rocco Glass Company, are both matching dollar for dollar donations!  That means for every dollar you donate, $3 goes to this great cause!!

Unique BARCS Donation

Jan. 1, 2013

After donating $7,500 to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) at an Orioles game on September 6th, 2012, Carroll Independent Fuel and High’s decided to make another trip down to BARCS for different donation. Carroll independent Fuel is a 4th generation, family owned company, locally owned for over 100 years by the Phelps family. The Phelps family is very passionate about giving back to the community and that includes animal rights and care.   Among many other on going philanthropic ventures, the family rescued two dogs from BARCS in recent years. This week, John Phelps Jr., and president John Phelps, wanted to make a different kind of donation. With two truck loads filled with dog toys and raw hide bones, the Phelps’ gifted over 300 pounds of donated goods at the BARCS center.  Miss JoAnn Goldberger, Director of Development at BARCS, was thrilled to accept the donation on behalf of our four legged friends.
